In Short
SEQ sets one cookie, to keep you signed in. Cloudflare, which protects the site, may set cookies of its own for security. There are no advertising cookies and no cookies that track you across other sites. Every cookie here is strictly necessary to sign you in or to keep the site safe, so we do not ask you to accept cookies and there is no cookie banner. If we ever add a cookie that is not strictly necessary, we will ask you first and list it here.
The Sign-In Cookie
- Name:
seq_scribe_session, set by SEQ. - What it does: keeps you signed in, so that each page you open knows who you are.
- How it is protected: scripts cannot read it, it is sent only to SEQ, and only over an encrypted connection.
- How long it lasts: twelve hours, renewed while you use SEQ. If you chose Remember me when signing in, thirty days, renewed while you use SEQ. A rider account signed in without Remember me keeps it only until the browser closes.
- When it goes: when you sign out, or when it runs out.
Cloudflare’s Security Cookies
Cloudflare sits in front of the site to protect it from attacks and automated traffic. It may set short-lived cookies for that purpose, such as __cf_bm, which helps tell people from bots, and cf_clearance, which remembers that you passed a security check if one was shown. They are used only for security, under Cloudflare’s own terms.
Cloudflare also provides our Web Analytics, which counts visits to our pages. It uses no cookies and does not follow you across other sites.
No Advertising or Tracking Cookies
SEQ has no advertising, no advertising cookies, no social media buttons that set cookies, and nothing that tracks you across other sites. We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
What the App Keeps on Your Device
Besides the cookie, the app keeps some things in your browser’s own storage, on your device:
- Session storage: your sign-in for this tab and your account’s details, such as your name, role and profile, so that separate tabs can hold separate accounts. It is cleared when you sign out or close the tab.
- Local storage: a copy of the show’s current data (the order of go, riders, check-ins and results), changes waiting to reach the office, and a ride in progress, so that judging carries on when the show-ground Wi-Fi drops and a sheet survives the page reloading. A rider account keeps a copy of its riders’ released tests to read offline. Local storage also holds device settings: the chosen microphone, spoken reminders and their voice, an enrolled Voice ID, and a random identifier for the device.
- The offline copy of the app: the app’s own pages, scripts, styles and icons, and, on a judge’s device, the on-device voice models, so that the app opens and works without a connection.
Signing out clears the sign-in. It also clears the show’s data from the device, unless changes made on it have not reached the office yet: then the show’s data and those changes stay, and the changes are sent when someone next signs in with a connection. Signing out of a rider account clears its copy of the riders’ tests. Device settings stay until you remove them in the app or clear the site’s data.
How to Clear It
You can remove everything SEQ keeps on a device by clearing the site’s data in your browser. That signs you out, and removes any changes that have not reached the office yet, so sign out first while you have a connection.
- Safari on an iPad or iPhone: Settings, then Safari (under Apps on recent versions), Advanced, Website Data; find seqequestrian.com and remove it.
- Safari on a Mac: Safari, Settings, Privacy, Manage Website Data.
- Chrome or Edge: select the icon beside the address, then the site’s settings, and clear its data.
- Firefox: select the padlock beside the address, then Clear Cookies and Site Data.
A Voice ID can also be removed on its own, in the app under Controls.
